Genie One now searches the web and expands agent limits on Databricks
September brought three practical changes to the Genie suite: web search with source citations, double the tables per Genie Agent, and more stored conversations per agent.
Genie One, Databricks' conversational assistant, gained the ability to search the public web to answer questions that need current information, such as recent release notes, third-party documentation, or news. Every answer that uses this search cites the external sources as links, which helps audit where the information came from, a detail that matters a lot in enterprise environments that can't simply trust an AI agent's answer blindly.
In the same wave of updates, each Genie Agent now supports up to 50 tables, views, or metric views as a data source, double the previous limit of 30, and the stored conversation history per agent went from 10,000 to 200,000 records. This reduces the need to fragment a business domain into several smaller agents just because of a technical limitation.
Genie One and Genie Agents also gained support for models served through OpenAI within Databricks, when partner-powered AI features are enabled, expanding the model options available beyond the native Databricks Foundation Model API catalog. For teams designing a conversational AI layer on top of Unity Catalog, this set of changes reduces both technical friction (more tables, more history) and trust friction (source citation on web search).
